PREMABLE
The Memorial University of Newfoundland – Programa de la
Coruña ( hereinafter referred to as “the Programa”) is an exceptional educational opportunity, but it is not without
certain risks, dangers, hazards and liabilities to all participants. These include, but are not limited to,
personal injury, death, property damage, expense and other loss, delay or
inconvenience, and of course cancellation or curtailment. All persons taking part in the Programa are
required to accept these and other risks as a condition of their participation
in the Programa. Memorial University will not accept any liability for
injury, loss, damage or expense sustained as a result of nay person’s
participants in the Programa. The
Statement of Risks set forth below is intended to enable participants better to
understand and accept the various risks involved in the Programa. All students admitted to the Programa
will be required to sign the Release of Liability, Waiver of Claims,
Assumption of Risks and Indemnity Agreement set forth below, which will release
Memorial University of Newfoundland, and its representatives, from any future
claims which might arise as a result of the applicant’s participation on the Programa.
STSTEMENT OF RISKS
The Programa involves the risks inherent in international travel. The Programa will take place in La Coruña (Spain). There are significant risks, dangers and hazards to which all travelers to La Coruña are exposed. These include, but are not limited to air travel to and from the Programa, road and transportation hazards including those inherent in airplane travel to and from the Programa, and other hazards associated with participation in sports activities and excursions during the Programa. The medical facilities in La Coruña may be of a lower standard than what might be expected in Canada; in the event of serious illness or injury, participants in the Programa may have to be evacuated for treatment.
Memorial University of Newfoundland will be using the services of independent travel agents, airlines and travel operators. Memorial University of Newfoundland cannot accept responsibility for the conduct of these independent agencies. It is always possible that the Programa might not be completed or individual activities may be curtailed or cancelled, due to weather, illness, political disturbances, motor vehicle accidents, transportation problems, failure to perform on part of the travel agents, airlines or marine operators, problems relating to customs, immigration or visa requirements, or other circumstances either within or beyond the control of Memorial University of Newfoundland.
All participants in the Programa will be required to attend orientation and safety lectures on these and other risks and on the student
