Dr. Kate Bride
Just as this issue of E‐News was ready to go on‐line, we learned of the untimely death of our colleague, Dr. Kate Bride. Dr. Kate Bride taught in the Department since 2004 and had taught a number of courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. She was currently teaching a section of GNDR 1000, Introduction to Gender Studies. Completing a SSHRC Post‐Doctoral Fellowship at York University, she was looking forward to returning to Newfoundland for the spring/summer 2013 term. She contributed in so many ways to the Department and for that reason we have included her contributions to the section, What We’re Reading, later in this issue.
We will miss Kate, as will many of you. Our thoughts are with her family and her network of close friends at this time.
On Sunday, April 7, 2013, Dr. Kate Bride passed away after a brief illness in her 45th year. She will be sadly missed by her family and many, many friends.
Beloved daughter of Harry and Mary Kay Bride; sister of Paul (Janet), Rob (aunt of Bowen) and John; and niece and cousin to a large and loving family.
Family and friends will be received at the Turner and Porter Peel Chapel, 2180 Hurontario Street, Mississauga on Thursday, April 11 from 4‐8pm. A funeral mass will be held on Friday, April 12 at 11am at St. Christopher's, 1171 Clarkson Rd. Mississauga.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Dr. Kate Bride Memorial Conference Travel Fund at www. munalum.ca/giving‐to‐memorial or to The Office of Alumni Affairs and Development, Memorial University of Newfoundland, 20 Lambe's Lane, St. John's, NL A1C 5S7.
